Sacramento

Sacramento, the capital of California, may not have the star power of Los Angeles or the urban culture of San Francisco, nor does it boast the coastal charm of San Diego. However, there’s a historical reason why Sacramento holds this prestigious title. During the Gold Rush era, it was a bustling hub for actual miners seeking their fortunes. Though it lacks the glitz and glamour, the city offers its own unique charm and cultural experiences. A must-visit attraction is the Capitol building, located in Capitol Park, which serves as the seat of California’s state government. But that’s not all Sacramento has to offer. The Midtown neighborhood is home to a thriving theater and nightlife scene, making it an attractive destination for cosmopolitan visitors. So, even though the Gold Rush may be a thing of the past, Sacramento remains a wonderful place to explore and enjoy.

Sacramento has a rich history. Before the arrival of Spanish settlers in the 1840s, it was inhabited by the Nisenan branch of Maidu Native Americans. The California Gold Rush in the 1850s brought about a massive influx of people to the area, making it the site of the largest migration in the country’s history. Today, Sacramento is known for being the most affordable destination in California. It offers a wide range of outdoor activities, with 200 parks and two rivers to enjoy. Additionally, Sacramento proudly calls itself the “Farm-to-Fork Capital of America” due to its significant agricultural production of grapes, pears, corn, and livestock. With so much to offer, you’ll never be bored in Sacramento, regardless of your interests.

When to Visit

Sacramento offers the best experience for visitors during the months of April to June or September to November. This is when you can enjoy the city’s vibrant festivals, especially in May and June. However, if you plan to attend the California State Fair, it takes place in July, which tends to be extremely hot in California’s Central Valley. Keep in mind that the hotter months also bring severe to exceptional drought conditions to the region. If you prefer fewer crowds and don’t mind some rainfall, winter months are a good option. The rest of the year generally has pleasant temperatures, ranging from the 70s to 90s Fahrenheit, with low humidity.
