Capitol Park

Since 1869, Capitol Park has served as the residence of the California state government. Alongside fulfilling its role as the seat of government, the elegant Capitol building is also home to a museum showcasing state artifacts and the Capitol Art Program. This program boasts a diverse collection of artistic representations of California, including antiques, murals, and portraits of governors.

Take a leisurely walk around the park surrounding the Capitol building and museum once you’re done exploring them. This park is not only beautiful but also holds various memorials that commemorate important moments in the history of the state. You’ll come across the Civil War Memorial Grove, the California Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the California Veterans Memorial, and even a life-size statue of Junípero Serra, who played a major role in colonizing the state.
