Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, also known as Steel City, is shedding its blue collar image while still maintaining its industrial roots. The city has a vibrant atmosphere thanks to the presence of renowned universities such as Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh. Additionally, Pittsburgh has nurtured numerous talented individuals, including Broadway star Patti Lupone, the late Pop Art icon Andy Warhol, and beloved children’s television host “Mister” Fred Rogers. Though steel remains an important part of Pittsburgh’s identity, a new and exciting energy is emerging. The city boasts a thriving culinary scene with delectable restaurants popping up all over. Its museums showcase world-class art and delve into the rich regional history. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy top-notch football games at Heinz Field, while outdoor enthusiasts have plenty of activities to engage in along the city’s three rivers throughout the year.

When to Visit

In Pittsburgh, one food that stands out is pierogies. Locals have their own recommendations for the best places to enjoy this popular Polish dish. When you’re in town, it’s definitely worth trying. Some eateries that receive praise from both critics and customers are Pierogies Plus, Penn Brewery, and The Church Brew Works.

Pierogies Plus specializes in Eastern European cuisine and offers various unique variations of the traditional pierogi. If you’re a fan of both delicious potato dumplings and craft beer, Penn Brewery is highly recommended. What makes The Church Brew Works intriguing is its location in a former church. Not only do they brew their own beer, but they also serve pierogies prepared in multiple ways.
