Hurricane Ridge

Located just 17 miles south of Port Angeles, Hurricane Ridge serves as the park’s most accessible mountain area. When the weather is clear, the views it offers are truly breathtaking. Visitors often find themselves at a loss for words when attempting to describe the scenery, resorting to adjectives like “amazing,” “spectacular,” “awesome,” and “stunning.” You can fully appreciate the picturesque landscape by engaging in various activities such as hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and sledding.

At Hurricane Ridge, you’ll find a variety of hiking trails suitable for different skill levels. If you prefer an easier hike with beautiful views, you can try the Big Meadow trail. This paved trail is only half a mile long and takes you through open meadows where you can admire the Olympic Mountains. Another option is the Cirque Rim trail, which is also paved and about a mile long. Along this trail, you’ll enjoy views of Port Angeles and the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

For those seeking more challenging hikes, there are two notable options. The Klahhane Ridge trail stretches 3.8 miles each way, providing a rewarding adventure. Additionally, the Hurricane Hill trail offers a 1.6-mile journey each way. The initial quarter-mile of this trail is paved, but as you continue, you’ll climb higher to reach a breathtaking panoramic view of majestic mountains and the surrounding saltwater.
