Enjoy it while visiting Mount Rainier National Park in Washington

Longmire

In 1899, the park was established, and it adopted James Longmire’s homestead and mineral springs resort as its headquarters. James Longmire arrived in the area during the mid-1800s and discovered the springs, leading him to open a charming resort. Presently, the original headquarters, built in 1916, houses a museum that remains open throughout the year. This museum showcases exhibits and provides information about the park’s early days. It’s worth noting that the entirety of Longmire has been recognized as a national historic district. Additionally, within Longmire, you’ll discover the Longmire Wilderness Information Center and the National Park Inn. Many hiking trails are available in this area, including the Trail of the Shadows. This trail is an easy, approximately 1-mile loop that commences near the museum. Along the way, you’ll pass by the Longmire hot springs, traverse the surrounding forest, and encounter a replica of one of the park’s earliest homesteads.

Longmire is often praised by visitors as a “classic old-time museum” and a “hidden gem” due to its friendly and knowledgeable park rangers.
