Trip ideas while visiting South Padre Island in Texas
Sea Turtle, Inc., founded in 1977, is dedicated to safeguarding marine turtles. It’s the perfect destination if you’re interested in observing these captivating creatures up close. The volunteers at Sea Turtle, Inc. offer informative presentations on turtle conservation that are extremely popular with visitors. They also provide engaging activities for children, teaching them how to identify various sea turtle species. Your little ones will especially enjoy the exciting scavenger hunt organized at the center. One of the highlights is being able to witness baby sea turtles being released back into their natural habitat. Please note that hatchling releases are not a regular occurrence, so make sure to check the website ahead of time to see if any are scheduled. Additionally, you have the opportunity to “adopt” individual sea turtles and nests, with the proceeds supporting the center’s conservation programs.
Visitors who visit Sea Turtle, Inc. on the northern end of Padre Boulevard, just south of the South Padre Island Convention Center, develop a deep fondness for the turtles and admire the organization’s mission to protect them. The center is open from Tuesday to Sunday, operating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., except during June to mid-August when it stays open until 5 p.m. A small donation fee is required for entry.
