Enjoy it while visiting Galveston in Texas
Galveston offers an unexpected delight for tourists: a museum dedicated to offshore drilling. Despite initial skepticism, many visitors have been pleasantly surprised by the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum. With its interactive exhibits, this hidden gem has been described as “fascinating,” “fun,” and “interesting.” Situated on a retired oil rig in the Galveston Channel, the museum provides an opportunity to learn about offshore drilling and the oil and gas industry. The tours are self-guided and begin with an informative video, followed by exploration of the museum’s three floors and two exterior areas of the rig.
Every month, the museum has a special event called Family Day. It takes place on the second Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On these days, the museum focuses on various themes related to the oil and gas industry. Families can enjoy interactive displays and exciting experiments that help children learn in a fun way. The best part is that if you’re 18 years old or younger, you can enter for free when accompanied by a paying adult. Besides Family Day, the museum provides special programs for boy and girl scouts, as well as overnight programs and other activities.
