A place like no other near Galveston in Texas
Col. Walter Gresham, an attorney and entrepreneur, commissioned Bishop’s Palace, also known as Gresham’s Castle, in the late 1800s. The renowned architect Nicholas Clayton designed this magnificent structure in Galveston. In 1923, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galveston acquired the building and used it as a bishop’s residence until 1963, giving it the name Bishop’s Palace. Today, this Victorian home, recognized as a National Historic Landmark, welcomes visitors for tours. Inside, you can admire remarkable architectural features like a silver fireplace, bronze dragons, and beautiful stained-glass windows.
The house has received high praise from recent visitors who described it as “magnificent” and “grand.” They particularly loved the gift shop, which is located in multiple rooms of the palace’s basement. Many believe that the admission price is well worth it. Nonetheless, a few visitors advised that children might not be as entertained by this attraction.
