Trip ideas while visiting Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee

Sugarlands Visitor Center

Start your visit to the park at the Sugarlands Visitor Center, which comes highly recommended by recent travelers. This visitor center has a lot to offer, including informative displays about the park’s natural history. You can also catch a free 20-minute film that provides an overview of the park. Inside the center, you’ll find a bookstore and a gift shop where you can browse for souvenirs. Restrooms are available as well. Don’t forget to grab some trail maps and any other information you may need. If you’re visiting during the right season, you can even participate in ranger-led programs that are organized regularly.

When you visit, take the opportunity to grab driving and trail maps. Don’t forget to get your cancellation stamp for your NPS passport. The staff here is known for being friendly and ready to assist. Make sure to check out the gift shop, and if nature calls, restrooms are available and kept clean. Just keep in mind that parking can be a bit challenging during busy times.
