Trip ideas while visiting Myrtle Beach in South Carolina
Back in 1930, Archer Milton Huntington, a prominent industrialist, and his wife Anna Hyatt Huntington, a talented artist, bought a piece of land with the intention of using it as a personal retreat for Anna’s recovery from tuberculosis. However, their plans took a different turn when they decided to transform the land into a beautiful sculpture garden and wildlife sanctuary that would be open to the public. Today, this remarkable place has become the largest figurative sculpture garden in the United States.
Spanning approximately 9,100 acres, this expansive property also includes the Lowcountry Zoo, enchanting marshes, scenic nature trails, an education center, and a delightful butterfly garden. With so much to offer, it’s the perfect destination for an enjoyable family outing. The art collection alone is a sight to behold, featuring over 2,000 exquisite works of figurative American sculptures by renowned artists such as Daniel Chester French. These captivating sculptures are thoughtfully placed throughout the gardens, creating a harmonious blend of art and nature.
