Jennie Wade House

If you want to get a glimpse of what life was like during the Civil War, a visit to the Jennie Wade House is a must. This historic building holds significance as it was the place where Mary Virginia “Jennie” Wade, the only civilian casualty during the Battle of Gettysburg, lost her life. On July 3, 1863, she was hit by a Confederate bullet, marking the final day of the battle. The house stands today just as it did in the 19th century, complete with furnishings and artifacts from the time when Jennie met her unfortunate fate.

The Jennie Wade House is highly praised by most travelers. They particularly enjoyed the engaging and educational tour guides, who dress in attire inspired by the period. However, a small number of past visitors warned that the place might come across as a tourist trap rather than an authentic Civil War attraction.
