One more place to enjoy near Portland in Oregon
Forest Park is the perfect spot if you want to enjoy the outdoors without traveling all the way to Mount Hood. With a sprawling area of 5,200 acres, it holds the distinction of being one of America’s biggest urban parks.
Forest Park offers a variety of attractions, one of which is the 30-mile Wildwood Trail. This trail forms part of a larger 40-mile loop system that connects different pedestrian and trail routes in the region. These routes stretch from the Columbia River to Gresham, passing through southeast Portland along the Willamette Greenway, and eventually leading back to the Marquam Trail in southwest Portland. To locate a trailhead, you can access Forest Park Conservancy’s online maps or purchase a water-resistant trail map at Powell’s or a New Seasons Market. If you enjoy bird-watching, be sure to keep an eye out for fascinating species like barred owls, Cooper’s hawks, and pileated woodpeckers that often inhabit the tall trees of the park.
