New Mexico History Museum

The New Mexico History Museum showcases the state’s stories from different perspectives. Its main exhibition, called “Telling New Mexico,” provides an overview of over five centuries of regional history. Additionally, the museum presents various temporary exhibits focusing on topics such as the Fred Harvey Company’s legacy, New Mexico’s role in World War I, and the acquisition of its artifact collection. With more than 1 million objects and documents, including rare 18th-century hide paintings, devotional art, and photographs, the museum’s collections are extensive. Visitors can also explore a hands-on exhibit that explores New Mexico’s printing and literary traditions. The Fray Angélico Chávez History Library, located within the museum, is home to a vast catalog of resources related to the history and culture of the state and region. Notably, the museum encompasses the Palace of Governors as well.
