A place like no other near Cape May in New Jersey
Welcome to the Naval Air Station (NAS) Wildwood Aviation Museum! Step inside our historic hangar, which dates back to 1943 during World War II. Back then, this hangar served as a training facility for dive bombers to practice takeoffs, landings, night flying, and target practice.
After the war, the hangar transitioned into a hub for charter and commuter flights until around 1990. Unfortunately, it fell into disrepair over time. But don’t worry, there’s a happy ending to this story! In 1997, a kind-hearted doctor and his wife purchased the 92,000-square-foot building for just $1. They saw its potential and embarked on a mission to restore it to its former glory.
Thanks to their efforts, the hangar was transformed into the NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum, a place where history comes alive. Visitors from near and far can explore our impressive collection of aircraft and WWII memorabilia. Marvel at medevac helicopters, military jets, and over 20 propeller aircraft. And that’s not all! We also showcase other fascinating artifacts from the 1940s, including retro soda machines and classic automobiles.
Come on in, aviation enthusiasts and history buffs alike! Experience the rich heritage of flight and immerse yourself in the stories of the past. The NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum awaits you with open wings!
Visitors who have recently been to the museum were amazed by the extensive range of vintage items, including planes, cars, boats, and more. One of the highlights for many was the opportunity to explore and even climb inside different trucks and Jeeps on display. While there were only a few negative comments, some visitors felt that the prices were a little steep, particularly for larger families, especially when considering the museum’s relatively small size.
