The Grand Rapids African American Museum & Archives is dedicated to sharing the stories of the Black experience in Grand Rapids. Using recorded oral histories, exhibits, memorabilia, pop-up displays, and special events, GRAAMA aims to provide insights into the achievements of Black leaders in the city. Although the museum currently occupies a modest 2,100-square-foot space, it aspires to relocate to a larger, contemporary museum measuring over 13,000 square feet in downtown Grand Rapids. While awaiting this expansion, visitors can explore the intimate museum to learn about the rich history of civil rights in Grand Rapids. Additionally, they can embark on a 2-mile walking tour accompanied by a podcast to discover the significant locations associated with the city’s civil rights movement.
The museum may be small, but it offers a wealth of knowledge according to numerous visitors who have praised it.
