Salem Maritime National Historic Site

Salem Maritime National Historic Site is the oldest National Historic Site in the United States. It consists of 12 historic buildings located along Salem Harbor. The site was established in 1938 to protect and showcase the significance of one of America’s major ports during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. By exploring this waterfront park, visitors can gain valuable insights into the maritime history of New England and the entire United States. Some notable attractions within the national park include the Custom House, Derby Wharf, Hawkes House, Narbonne House, and the Colonial Revival Garden.

The Salem Maritime National Historic Site offers more than just its buildings and grounds. You can explore the Salem Armory Visitor Center, where you’ll find brochures, maps, exhibits, and films that tell the park’s fascinating history. And don’t forget to visit the Waite & Peirce Park Store, where you can browse through a variety of souvenirs to take home with you.
