Aquinnah Cliffs

Enjoy it while visiting Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts

Aquinnah Cliffs

The Aquinnah Cliffs, previously called Gay Head, attract numerous tourists to Martha’s Vineyard during the busy summer months. These stunning clay cliffs were formed by glaciers long ago and offer a worthwhile experience. Visitors can choose to take the lower beach paths for a close view of the cliffs and enjoy the expansive stretch of Moshup Beach. Alternatively, they can opt for the upper trails, which lead to the cliff tops, providing an opportunity to see the Gay Head Light and the neighboring Elizabeth Islands.

Be cautious as you explore the Aquinnah Cliffs, as they are located within the Wampanoag reservation on the island. These cliffs hold great significance and are protected to prevent erosion. Look out for signs that indicate areas you should not enter. Remember, it’s important to respect the environment and refrain from taking any red clay as a memento.
