The Mapparium

Prepare to be amazed at the remarkable three-story stained glass globe housed within the Mary Baker Eddy Library. This extraordinary creation, designed by Chester Lindsay Churchill, the architect responsible for the Christian Science Publishing Society building, showcases a captivating representation of the world as it existed back in 1935.

The “How Do You See the World” experience offers various attractions. First, there is a globe that you can explore. Then, there’s “Our World: Mapping Progress,” which showcases humanity’s accomplishments since 1935. Additionally, there’s “Points of Progress,” where you can delve into significant events in human rights, scientific advancements, exploration, and more. During the experience, you’ll listen to a 10-minute audio narration featuring clips from influential individuals like President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Jane Goodall, and Wangari Maathai, a Nobel laureate from Kenya. Here’s something really cool about the globe: it acts as a “whispering gallery.” If you and a friend stand at opposite ends, you can whisper something to them and they’ll be the only one who hears it.
