Old North Church

A place like no other near Boston in Massachusetts

Old North Church

Paul Revere’s iconic midnight ride is well-known among those familiar with American history. It was a crucial event where Revere rode through the town to alert people of the imminent arrival of British troops. Prior to setting off for Lexington, Revere issued instructions at Old North Church. The responsibility of signaling the approach of the British fell upon Robert Newman, the church’s sexton, and Captain John Pulling Jr., the church’s vestryman. They ascended the steeple and displayed two lanterns, indicating that the British forces were advancing by sea.

Christ Church, also known as the official name of the church, is a treasure trove of historical artifacts. Inside this enchanting place, you’ll find remarkable relics that will transport you back in time. Among them are the oldest set of change ringing bells in North America and stunning chandeliers that were imported all the way from England during the early 1700s. Even the pews have their own fascinating stories to tell. Take, for instance, Pew No. 54, which was specially reserved for none other than Paul Revere’s son.
