Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum

Isabella Stewart Gardner’s passion for art led her to establish a museum in Boston’s Fenway area after her husband passed away in 1898. The museum, modeled after the Palazzo Barbaro in Venice, was completed in 1901. Isabella made the fourth floor her home and began displaying her remarkable collection of Italian art. Today, you have the opportunity to explore this museum and immerse yourself in the works of renowned Italian masters like Raphael and Titian. Alongside the art, the museum also houses a variety of treasures from Europe, including exquisite furniture, photographs, sculptures, and rare books. Renzo Piano designed the museum’s New Wing, featuring a beautiful glass atrium, greenhouses, and landscaped gardens.

The museum attracts people who appreciate art, architecture, and horticulture. Visitors have different opinions about its arrangement: some think it’s a bit random, while others admire the wide range of artifacts and the cozy ambience. However, some visitors would like to see more plaques providing information about the paintings. Finally, please remember to turn off your camera flash as it is not allowed inside the museum.
