Trip ideas while visiting Annapolis in Maryland

Sandy Point State Park

In 1952, Sandy Point State Park became the first state park to welcome African Americans. However, even though the park was open to everyone, the public facilities remained segregated. Following the Brown v. Board of Education ruling, the NAACP took legal action in 1954 to end segregation at the park. As a result, the U.S. Supreme Court mandated the integration of Sandy Point State Park in 1955.

Located in Annapolis, Sandy Point State Park is a perfect destination for those seeking a day filled with outdoor adventures. Spanning an expansive 786 acres, this park offers a delightful blend of Maryland history and breathtaking natural beauty. Resting on the picturesque northwestern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, Sandy Point State Park promises a memorable experience for visitors.
