Park Loop Road

Embarking on a relaxing trip along the beautiful 27-mile Park Loop Road is considered by everyone who visits the park as the best way to quickly explore Acadia National Park. Renting a car is highly recommended for this experience. This picturesque route grants access to well-loved attractions and hiking trails like Sand Beach, Thunder Hole, and Otter Cliff. To start your adventure, just head to the Hulls Cove Visitors Center and follow the scenic road that winds around the east side of Mount Desert Island.

When you go on the loop, you’ll find public restrooms conveniently placed along the way. However, it’s a good idea to bring your own lunch because there aren’t many places to eat in the area. Most of the 27-mile stretch has traffic flowing in one direction, and there’s an extra lane for parking near Wildwood Stables where you can enjoy the beautiful views. It’s recommended to start your drive early in the morning to avoid heavy tourist traffic, especially during the busy summer months. Some people have mentioned that cell service can be spotty, so it’s wise to get a map from the visitors center before you start driving in case your GPS stops working.
