The Chicago Riverwalk

In Chicago, when the weather gets warmer, one of the best places to enjoy the outdoors is the Chicago Riverwalk. It’s a pedestrian walkway that stretches along the south bank of the Chicago River for 1.25 miles. Walking along this pathway allows you to appreciate the city skyline and take in the beautiful surroundings. There are plenty of things to do on the water as well, like taking a boat or kayak tour. If you prefer to explore on foot, you can visit the public gardens and art displays or have a delicious meal at a popular restaurant or bar with a view of the Chicago River. If you’re interested in learning about the river’s fascinating history, you should check out the McCormick Bridgehouse & Chicago River Museum. It’s a museum dedicated to the city’s famous movable bridges. Another attraction worth mentioning is Art on theMART. It’s an impressive digital art projection displayed on the facade of theMART (formerly The Merchandise Mart), and it looks even better when viewed from the Riverwalk.

Strolling along the Riverwalk is a lovely way to experience the city, although it’s best to avoid the chilly winter months. The walkway is accessible to everyone and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. For a special treat, plan your visit during St. Patrick’s Day weekend when the entire river is dyed green. You can find the public walkway downtown, running along the south bank of the river from North State Street to North Lake Shore Drive, with multiple entry points available. Conveniently, there are parking lots and L stations near the attraction. To learn more, check out the official website of the City of Chicago.
