Trip ideas while visiting Maui in Hawaii
Molokini is a small island located approximately 3 miles off the southwest coast of Maui. It’s famous for being one of the best places in the Hawaiian Islands for snorkeling and diving. The island is actually a crescent-shaped volcano crater that sits partially underwater, which gives it exceptional water clarity compared to other snorkeling spots nearby. Inside the crater, there are 250 different types of tropical fish and 38 varieties of hard coral. To preserve its natural beauty, Molokini is protected by the Molokini Shoal Marine Life Conservation District, and therefore can only be reached by boat through a snorkeling tour. These tours offer visitors the opportunity to explore the underwater world using snorkels, SCUBA gear, or even SNUBA, a combination of snorkeling and SCUBA that doesn’t require certification. Most tours also include a visit to Turtle Town, another coral reef known for its abundant turtle population.
