One more place to enjoy near Atlanta in Georgia
Stone Mountain Park is spread over an expansive 3,200 acres and offers a wide range of attractions. One of the most famous (or some might say infamous) features of the park is the Confederate Memorial Carving. It has sparked controversy in recent years due to the increased calls for the removal of Confederate monuments across the country. This carving holds the distinction of being the largest high relief sculpture in the world. It portrays Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy, along with Confederate Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. To put its size into perspective, the carved surface spans an area of 3 acres, which is larger than a football field. If the carving alone doesn’t tempt you to make the 18-mile drive northeast of the city, there are plenty of other attractions within the park to enjoy.
In addition to the main attractions, there are several other facilities available for visitors to enjoy at our location. These include a special area dedicated to preserving songbirds, where you can listen to their beautiful melodies. For a unique perspective of the surroundings, you can take a ride on our cable car. If you prefer a more leisurely experience, hop on board our scenic railroad and soak in the picturesque views.
For those who love a good game of mini-golf, we have a miniature golf course that provides fun for all ages. Golf enthusiasts will be pleased to know that we also offer two full-size 18-hole courses. If you’re visiting during the appropriate season, you can explore our outdoor park that features life-size replicas of dinosaurs. And if you want to escape the elements, we have an indoor play area with a dinosaur theme that is open during specific times of the year.
If you’re interested in history, we have a collection of homes that were constructed between 1793 and 1895. These historical houses are open for tours, allowing you to step back in time and learn about their unique stories.
Nature lovers will be delighted by the wilderness surrounding our grounds. We have a variety of hiking trails for you to explore, offering a chance to immerse yourself in the beauty of nature. You can also find designated picnic areas where you can enjoy a leisurely meal amidst the serene surroundings.
To make the most of your visit, we recommend staying until the evening during the summer months. That’s when our Lasershow Spectacular takes place, illuminating the mountain’s carving and painting the night sky with vibrant images representing the South. It’s a truly mesmerizing experience that shouldn’t be missed.
