Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife

A place like no other near Sanibel Island in Florida

Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife

In 1968, Shirley Walter established the Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife on Sanibel Island. She noticed a lack of resources to assist injured local wildlife and decided to take action. Since its founding, CROW has been dedicated to nursing thousands of animal patients from over 200 species. The clinic’s specialists offer emergency medicine, perform surgeries, and provide rehabilitation services to animals in need. Annually, approximately 5,000 animals receive assistance from CROW. Moreover, CROW serves as a teaching hospital, allowing veterinary students to develop their skills and knowledge.

CROW’s Visitor Education Center welcomes everyone, whether you’re a wounded bird or a curious student. Step inside and explore interactive exhibits that share the clinic’s history and highlight how they care for animals. Engage in daily presentations led by a knowledgeable staff member and meet Animal Ambassadors – these special patients couldn’t be released due to their injuries but now help educate visitors. During these presentations, you’ll learn about wildlife rescue efforts and gain insights into different patients at the clinic. For an even deeper experience, join a Wildlife Walk, a guided tour of the hospital. Please note that CROW is gradually resuming its programming at the Visitor Education Center, which is expected to fully reopen around mid-March 2023. However, the gift shop is already up and running, so feel free to pay it a visit.
