U.S. Capitol and the Library of Congress

The U.S. Capitol in Washington is a truly magnificent building and a must-visit for those interested in politics. It serves as the venue where members of Congress from both houses come together to discuss and shape national policies and laws. When you step inside, you’ll have the opportunity to explore various sections of the building, including the north and south wings, as well as the central Rotunda. The Rotunda itself is quite remarkable, adorned with paintings, frescoes, and sculptures that depict significant moments from American history. One notable feature is the cast-iron dome, which was added to the structure back in 1868.

To visit the Capitol, you’ll need to reserve your spot in advance. It’s important to know that you cannot tour the Capitol without making a reservation. The U.S. Capitol Visitor Center is open from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Inauguration Day. Keep in mind that the tour does not include the Senate and House of Representatives galleries. While some travelers have different opinions on whether the Capitol tour is worth the time and effort of making reservations, most agree that it’s a site well worth visiting.
