Colorado Springs

Katharine Lee Bates found great inspiration for writing the lyrics to the well-known patriotic song “America the Beautiful” while she was in Colorado Springs. The breathtaking view of the “purple mountains,” which are the Colorado Rockies, is truly captivating. On the other side, you can feast your eyes on the expansive “amber waves of grain” that make up the Great Plains. But the town offers more than just beautiful scenery. It’s home to notable institutions like the Air Force Academy and the Olympic & Paralympic Training Center. Over the years, Colorado Springs has become a melting pot of different people. As you stroll through the streets, you’ll encounter aspiring politicians, young families, art enthusiasts, and many others, all claiming their place in this remarkable part of America the Beautiful.

Colorado Springs, the second-largest city in Colorado, has established itself as a highly regarded place to live, consistently making it to the list of Best Places to Live. While known for its significance in politics and religion, the city has recently adopted a more relaxed atmosphere, resembling the laid-back vibe often associated with Boulder or Telluride (for a taste of this side of Colorado Springs, visit nearby Manitou Springs). However, most visitors are not drawn to the city for its political or social discussions. Instead, they come to experience the breathtaking panoramic views from the summit of Pikes Peak, the majestic cliffs of the Garden of the Gods, or the picturesque reddish cliffs of Red Rock Canyon.

When to Visit

When planning your visit to Colorado Springs, keep in mind that the best times to go are from March to May and from September to October. During these months, the temperatures are pleasantly cooler, making it more comfortable for outdoor activities. Additionally, you’ll benefit from smaller crowds and better deals on accommodations. If you visit during the fall, you’ll also be treated to a beautiful display of colorful foliage covering the nearby mountains. However, be aware that summer is a popular time for tourists, resulting in higher hotel prices and crowded attractions.
