Tuolumne Meadows

A place like no other near Yosemite National Park in California

Tuolumne Meadows

Welcome to the eastern section of the park, where you’ll discover Tuolumne Meadows. This place is renowned for being one of the largest high-elevation meadows in the Sierra Nevada, located at an impressive elevation of 8,600 feet. Prepare to be awed by the stunning landscapes that surround you, from tranquil grasslands and lush forests to meandering rivers and creeks, all framed by picturesque mountains. You have two options to soak in the beauty: either enjoy the scenic drive along Tioga Road with its vista points like Olmsted Point and Tenaya Lake, or venture out on one of the numerous trails in the area.

When it comes to hiking in Tuolumne Meadows, you’re in luck! There are plenty of trails for you to explore. If you prefer a shorter and easier hike, you can take the flat, 1½-mile trail to Soda Springs. This beautiful trail will lead you through meadows, allowing you to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty.

But if you’re up for a longer adventure with more diverse landscapes, the Glen Aulin trailhead is the way to go. Although it spans 11 miles, this hike offers incredible views of domes, waterfalls, and even a lively section of the Tuolumne River with thrilling whitewater rapids.

If those options seem too tiring, don’t worry! You can choose a more moderate hike to one of the stunning alpine lakes in the area. For example, the Gaylor Lakes hike is a 2-mile trail that takes you to a captivating collection of small alpine lakes situated about 500 feet above Tioga Pass. Another popular choice is Cathedral Lakes, a 7-mile trail offering breathtaking scenery. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can opt for Mono Pass, an 8-mile trail that leads straight into the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains.
