Tunnel Log

A place like no other near Sequoia National Park in California

Tunnel Log

The Tunnel Log is a popular spot for park visitors to take fun photos. This giant tree fell across the road in 1937, measuring 275 feet tall and 21 feet wide at the base. The following year, a tunnel was cut through the tree, and since then, people have been fascinated by this unique attraction. According to the National Park Service, the tree is estimated to be over 2,000 years old.

To make the most of your visit to the Tunnel Log, it’s wise to go early in the day. This way, you can avoid the large crowds of people striking poses in front of, underneath, and even on top of the log. Keep in mind that only vehicles shorter than 8 feet tall are allowed to drive through the 17-foot-wide tunnel. If you have a larger vehicle, don’t worry! There’s a bypass lane available for you to go around. Access to the Tunnel Log is included in the park admission, so you won’t need to pay extra.
