Twin Peaks

A place like no other near San Francisco in California

Twin Peaks

For breathtaking views of San Francisco, a visit to Twin Peaks is a must. These well-known grassy peaks stand at an impressive elevation of 922 feet, making them the second highest point in the city, just after Mount Davidson. Once you reach the summit, you’ll be treated to panoramic vistas of several iconic San Francisco landmarks, such as the Bay Bridge and downtown skyscrapers. Whether you choose to go during the day or night (some suggest experiencing both), countless visitors have agreed that the views are absolutely stunning and well worth the effort. Remember to bring a jacket, though, as recent visitors have mentioned that it can be windier and colder up there compared to sea level.

You can visit the Twin Peaks from 5 a.m. to midnight, and there is free parking available (although it’s limited) at the top of Twin Peaks Boulevard. The nearest Muni Metro stop is Castro Street, and if you prefer taking the bus, the Crestline Drive stop on the No. 37 route is your best option (it picks up from Market Street). Most people choose to walk or bike to the parking lot on the north peak to explore the area. Guided tours often make a stop here as well. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, you can hike along the nearly mile-long trail that takes you up both peaks. Additionally, there are other trails that wind their way through the park, covering the southern and eastern slopes of its 64 acres. Remember to stick to the marked trails, as poison ivy can be found in the vicinity. For further information, you can visit the website of San Francisco Recreation and Parks.
