Coit Tower, located in Pioneer Park on Telegraph Hill, offers a breathtaking view of the northwest corner of San Francisco. Standing at 210 feet tall, some visitors might mistake the tower for a fire hose nozzle, but this resemblance is purely coincidental. Back in 1933, Lillie Hitchcock Coit commissioned the tower as a tribute to volunteer firefighters. The tower was completed that same year, and the following year, in 1934, artists painted murals around its base. These murals were later repainted due to the inclusion of communist imagery. Today, Coit Tower holds a special place as a San Francisco Designated Landmark and is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

To reach the tower conveniently, you can take the N line of the Muni. If you’re coming from downtown, you have two options: either take the No. 30 or No. 45 line to Washington Square, which is situated at the corners of Union and Columbus, and then transfer to the No. 39 bus that will take you directly to Coit Tower.
