Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial

The Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial is located in La Jolla, which is situated less than 3 miles south of La Jolla Shores. It was constructed in 1954 as a tribute to all U.S. veterans, both living and deceased, from the Revolutionary War up to the present time. In addition to a large cross, there are 11 walls that feature over 3,500 granite plaques honoring individual military personnel and their achievements. Friendly volunteer docents are available to provide answers to any inquiries you may have. The memorial organizes ceremonies every Friday morning to pay homage to veterans, and it also hosts special events on holidays such as Memorial Day and Veterans Day.

Situated atop a mountain bearing its name, the site not only serves as a place of reverence but also offers breathtaking vistas of the Pacific Ocean, downtown San Diego, and the eastern mountains. Those who visit often express admiration for the thoughtfully created memorial honoring servicemen and women, along with the unparalleled panoramic views it provides of the picturesque surroundings.
