Coronado Beach

Trip ideas while visiting San Diego in California

Coronado Beach

Coronado Beach, located across the bay from San Diego, is a popular shoreline that offers a more relaxed experience compared to Mission Beach. It is favored by families and couples due to its spacious shoreline, clean sands, serene atmosphere, and picturesque location in the “Crown City.” Coronado Beach is not only ranked among the top beaches in San Diego but also regarded as one of the finest in California.

The beach at Coronado Island may not have a lively boardwalk like Mission Beach, but it compensates with stunning views and interesting attractions. Along Ocean Boulevard, you’ll find impressive mansions overlooking the shoreline. One iconic spot is the Hotel del Coronado, a historic landmark that opened its doors in 1888 and even starred in the famous Marilyn Monroe film “Some Like It Hot” back in 1959. Take a leisurely stroll along the approximately 1.75-mile-long beachfront, as suggested by previous visitors. Even in winter (December through February), when swimming may not be ideal due to chilly waters, the scenery alone is worth a visit. If you’re a fan of ice skating, you’ll be delighted to know that the Hotel Del Coronado offers a unique opportunity to skate right next to the beach.
