In the Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum, a solemn tribute is paid to a tragic event from American pioneering history. It commemorates the Donner Party, a group of courageous pioneers who faced unimaginable hardships during the severe winter of 1846 to 1847 in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Originally consisting of around 90 emigrants on their way to California, the wagon train was caught in a fierce snowstorm. Sadly, only half of the pioneers managed to survive, with some resorting to cannibalism for sustenance. As a poignant symbol, there stands a towering stone marker near the Emigrant Trail Museum, reaching a height of 22 feet.
