Mount Roberts Tramway

Trip ideas while visiting Juneau in Alaska

Mount Roberts Tramway

For those with limited time in Juneau, the Mount Roberts Tramway offers an easy and quick opportunity to experience the city’s stunning natural surroundings. Located just south of downtown, near the cruise ship dock, this tram is the most convenient way to begin your adventure. In a mere five minutes, you’ll ascend 1,800 feet, reaching the halfway point of the mountain. Prepare to be amazed by the breathtaking vistas of Juneau and Gastineau Channel that greet you from this vantage point. Once there, you can continue your exploration by venturing onto one of the hiking trails that traverse the area.

The tram ride to the top may not be as long as some visitors expected, especially considering the ticket price. Nevertheless, the majority of tourists had a positive experience and were impressed by the breathtaking views (remember to bring your camera!). Travelers have shared a helpful tip: avoid going to the tram immediately after the cruise ship docks to avoid the crowds. Waiting in line could consume a significant portion of your time during the port visit.
