A place like no other near Gulf Shores in Alabama
Looking for a change of pace from beach activities? Why not bring the kids to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, where they can meet some adorable furry friends! You might recognize this zoo from the popular Animal Planet documentary series called “The Little Zoo That Could” back in 2006. The show highlighted the zoo’s remarkable journey of rebuilding and caring for its animals after hurricanes Ivan, Dennis, and Katrina. With over 600 animals from almost 200 different species, including eight endangered species, there’s plenty to see and learn about. Besides observing the animals, you can enjoy daily talks by the zookeepers, entertaining animal shows, and even have the opportunity to meet and greet some of the critters up close.
The zoo has been relocated to a new location, around 6 miles north of the beach. Recent visitors had a great time at the zoo and appreciated the diverse range of animals they got to see. The new facilities also received positive feedback. On the downside, some reviewers felt that the admission prices were too high. However, many people agreed that it’s a perfect place to visit with young children due to its manageable size, as it covers an area of 25 acres.
