Steamboat Geyser

Steamboat, the tallest active geyser worldwide, is situated in the Norris Geyser Basin, not far from Old Faithful. It is famous for shooting water high into the air, reaching over 300 feet, and its impressive displays can last anywhere from three to 40 minutes. Unfortunately, scientists at the park are unable to predict when the next eruption will occur. In fact, there have been years without a single eruption in the past. However, since 2018, the frequency of eruptions has increased, with approximately twelve occurring each year. To get to Steamboat Geyser, visitors can take the Back Basin trail and boardwalk, which is around 1.5 miles long and located near Cistern Spring.

The reviews for Steamboat Geyser were mixed because of its unpredictable schedule. People who were lucky enough to be there when it erupted described it as an amazing experience that they would never forget. However, some people who missed the eruption still found the geyser interesting, although they noticed a lot of dead plants in the surrounding area which is not suitable for vegetation. Despite the geyser’s activity, many visitors commented on the busy atmosphere in the area.
