Old Faithful

When visiting Yellowstone, make sure to see the world-famous geyser known as Old Faithful. While it’s not the largest active geyser (that title goes to Steamboat Geyser in Norris Geyser Basin), the eruptions of Old Faithful are truly impressive. They reach heights of 106 to 180 feet and occur frequently. Unlike many other geysers in the park, Old Faithful’s eruptions are predictable. In fact, it’s one of only six geysers with this characteristic. You can rely on its name, as it has erupted approximately every 90 minutes since 2019. Remember to check the visitor center’s sign for a more accurate prediction. The eruption lasts from one to five minutes, during which an astounding amount of water—ranging from 3,700 to 8,400 gallons—is expelled from the geyser.
