Trip ideas while visiting Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming

Mystic Falls Trail

One of the most popular trails in Yellowstone National Park is Mystic Falls Trail, offering over 900 miles of trails to explore. This trail stands out for its beautiful scenery and moderate length. You have two options when hiking this trail: a 2.4-mile out-and-back route or a 3.5-mile loop by combining it with the Fairy Creek Trail. The loop takes you to an amazing viewpoint overlooking the Upper Geyser Basin. To reach this point, you’ll encounter switchbacks and a 600-foot elevation gain. Along the Mystic Falls Trail, you’ll pass through a mixed conifer forest and alongside Little Firehole Creek. Eventually, you’ll arrive at the impressive Mystic Falls, a 70-foot-tall waterfall flowing down a rocky landscape from the Madison Plateau.

Every visitor who has recently explored this trail has experienced immense joy and was captivated by the breathtaking beauty of the falls. They highly recommend venturing an additional 1.5 miles to reach the Upper Geyser Basin overlook, although it’s worth noting that this section of the trail is more challenging due to its steep incline. Other fellow travelers emphasize the importance of being well-prepared by bringing essential items like sufficient water, sunscreen, bug spray, and bear spray. You can easily rent or purchase these supplies at the park or airport.
