If you’ve been dreaming of the European Alps but can’t afford the trip, why not consider visiting the charming village of Stowe in Vermont? Nestled between the Green Mountains and CC Putnam State Forest, this picturesque New England town offers a more affordable option. Explore its delightful sweets shops, general stores, and visit the quaint churches and working farms that give it a unique charm. Don’t miss the opportunity to experience world-class skiing and other winter sports on Mount Mansfield, the highest peak in the state. As you ascend Mansfield in one of Stowe Mountain Resort’s gondolas or enjoy a cup of hot cocoa by the fireside in the Swiss-style chalets, you might just feel like you’re in a peaceful Alpine village. The famous von Trapp family from “The Sound of Music” certainly thought so too. In fact, they settled in Stowe’s Trapp Family Lodge because it reminded them of their home in Austria.
When planning a visit to Stowe, consider the best months for your trip. The fall and winter seasons from September to February offer delightful experiences such as leaf peeping and skiing, making it an ideal time to explore the town. Keep in mind that prices tend to be higher during this period, so it’s advisable to book your airfare and accommodations well in advance. Another popular time to visit is during the summer season from June to August, but if you prefer clear skies and lower rates, consider coming between March and May. For a summer visit, plan to arrive in June when the region is less crowded, as most New Englanders typically flock to the area during the Fourth of July weekend.
