Levine Museum of the New South

Enjoy it while visiting Charlotte in North Carolina

Levine Museum of the New South

The Levine Museum of the New South used to be a traditional museum in North Carolina Piedmont, but it recently moved to a new location. Instead of just displaying exhibits about post-Civil War life, the museum now offers digital experiences and community programming. To access these offerings, visitors can use the free KnowCLT smartphone app. One of the app’s features is an immersive GPS-based tour of Charlotte’s Brooklyn neighborhood, which used to be the biggest Black community in the Carolinas. Additionally, users of the app can earn rewards when they support Black-owned businesses in Charlotte.

The museum primarily focuses on Charlotte and the Carolina Piedmont region. However, people who have visited recently mentioned that you don’t have to live in Charlotte to enjoy the temporary exhibits or use the smartphone app.
