Located at milepost 382 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is the Folk Art Center. This charming place serves as the home to the Southern Highland Craft Guild, an organization that has been supporting artists and craftsmen from Southern Appalachia since the 1930s.

In the heart of Blue Ridge Parkway lies a popular destination known for its traditional and modern crafts. The center comprises three galleries showcasing various crafts, along with a bookstore, a parkway information desk, a library, and the renowned Allanstand Craft Shop, which holds the distinction of being the oldest of its kind in the country. Visitors can witness craft demonstrations from March to December. If you find yourself in Asheville during July or October, don’t miss the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands. This highly anticipated event attracts over 11,000 visitors annually, providing an opportunity to explore and purchase unique artworks while learning about the artists’ creative talents.
