A place like no other near Kaua'i in Hawaii
The Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge is located on the North Shore of the island and covers an area of 203 acres. It offers breathtaking views of the ocean from its position on a 180-foot bluff. The refuge is a haven for various seabirds, including some that are rarely seen from land, such as the nene (Hawaiian goose), the Laysan albatross (moli), and the red-footed booby. If you visit between December and May, you may even have the opportunity to witness humpback whales playing in the nearby waters. Within the refuge, you’ll find the impressive 52-foot Daniel K. Inouye Kilauea Point Lighthouse, which adds to the attraction of this place and makes it one of the must-visit spots on Kaua’i.
The scenic views in this area are highly appreciated by visitors. It’s a good idea to bring binoculars for bird-watching, although the refuge also provides them. The signage throughout the refuge is helpful in identifying the different bird species. Don’t forget to check out the gift shop too!
