Makapu'u Point Lighthouse Trail

Enjoy it while visiting Honolulu - Oahu in Hawaii

Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail

Just a short distance away, about 6 miles northeast of the Koko Crater Trail, you’ll find the delightful Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail. This trail is only 2 miles long for a round trip, making it easier to hike compared to the one at Koko Crater. The best part? It won’t cost you a dime! As you make your way along the trail, you’ll be treated to stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean. Keep an eye out for magnificent seabirds and even whales if you visit between November and May. Your journey will lead you to the charming red-roofed Makapu’u Lighthouse, a historic structure dating back to 1909.

The Makapu’u Point Lighthouse Trail is highly popular among visitors due to its paved pathway and convenient benches, ensuring ease of exploration for people of all ages. The trail offers breathtaking views that are often described as “amazing,” so don’t forget to bring your camera along. However, keep in mind that the path is mostly exposed to the sun and wind, so it’s important to dress accordingly, wear sunscreen, and carry an ample supply of water. To fully enjoy this hike, Hawaii’s Department of Land and Natural Resources suggests allocating a minimum of two hours for completion.
