Lightner Museum

Just south of Flagler College, near the historic city center of St. Augustine, you’ll find the unique Lightner Museum. This museum is housed in the former Alcazar Hotel, a building constructed by Henry Flagler back in 1888. Inside, you’ll discover a remarkable collection of 19th-century art. The museum showcases a variety of intriguing exhibits, including unconventional items like shrunken heads, salt and pepper shakers, human hair, and cigar labels. Alongside these peculiar artifacts, you can also admire traditional artworks and collections featuring exquisite glasswork and antique furniture. It’s worth noting that the exhibits change regularly, so even if you’ve visited before, there’s always something new to see.

The museum’s Spanish Renaissance Revival architecture and collections have been highly recommended by recent travelers. Exploring the property, which spans four floors of exhibits, can easily occupy several hours of your time. If hunger strikes, you can satisfy your appetite at the museum’s cafe. While it is open only for lunch, visitors have praised the delicious food served there.
