The Lincoln Road Mall is an iconic pedestrian shopping area located on Lincoln Road, between Alton Road and Washington Avenue. It was originally designed to be the “Fifth Avenue of the South” and quickly became a popular destination. Renowned architect Morris Lapidus transformed it into the second open-air mall in the United States during the late 1950s. The mall features a mix of architectural styles, such as Mediterranean Revival, art deco, and midcentury modern. Over time, artists flocked to the area, attracting visitors and contributing to its resurgence as one of the nation’s premier streets. In recognition of its historical significance, the Lincoln Road Mall has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.
