One more place to enjoy near Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado
Horace Albright, who served as the director of the National Park Service from 1929 to 1933, once expressed his excitement about Trail Ridge Road, stating that it would create a remarkable impression. He described how this road offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Rocky Mountains in every direction. Since its inception in 1932, Trail Ridge Road has continued to captivate travelers who embark on the 48-mile journey from Estes Park to Grand Lake. The road ascends above the tree line for approximately 11 miles, reaching an elevation of over 12,000 feet. It’s important for visitors to be aware that the temperatures at the lookout points on the road can be significantly colder compared to both Estes Park and Grand Lake, sometimes even dropping 20 to 30 degrees lower.
Trail Ridge Road is highly recommended by most travelers visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. A recent visitor spent an entire day exploring this scenic route and had the opportunity to observe various wildlife such as elk, marmots, and moose. Along the road, there are lookout points that provide fantastic photo opportunities, and some even have restroom facilities. Among the notable stops is the Forest Canyon Overlook, which offers a breathtaking view of the valley shaped by glaciers. The Alpine Visitor Center serves as a convenient midpoint, where you can take a break, stretch your legs, and grab a snack if needed.
