This land had a rich history of serving various purposes before it became a park. It was originally used as a reservation for Indigenous tribes, providing them with a place to live and carry out their traditions. Later on, during the challenging times of the Great Depression, it transformed into a fish hatchery, helping to support local communities by producing fish. In the midst of World War II, this land played a different role as a prisoner-of-war camp, housing prisoners from enemy nations. After the war, it was converted into a veterans affairs hospital, offering medical care and support to the brave men and women who had served their country. Today, it stands proudly as a park, preserving the memories and heritage of its diverse past.
