One more place to enjoy near Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona
Explore the scenic trail that leads to the Colorado River starting from the west of Bright Angel Lodge in Grand Canyon Village’s Historic District. This trail offers breathtaking views of the inner canyon and is a favorite among visitors. Keep in mind that while the descent can be manageable, the ascent is considered challenging. Along the way, you’ll find several tunnels and rest houses, allowing casual hikers to enjoy parts of the trail without committing to the full 12-mile round-trip hike. If you prefer an easier option, you can reach the first tunnel in just 20 minutes for a glimpse of the inner canyon views with less effort. For inexperienced hikers, it’s recommended to turn around at the 1 1/2-mile rest house, making it a 3-mile round-trip journey. Beyond this point, the trail becomes significantly steeper, and park rangers advise against attempting a day hike without a wilderness permit (required for destinations beyond Havasupai Gardens). If you’re looking to spend the night, camping is available at Havasupai Gardens and Bright Angel Campground, both conveniently located near Phantom Ranch.
